Three Days Grace Still Moving Forward

Surviving the death of a band member probably is the only thing that would ever compare to that of replacing your lead singer. No one died, but Three Days Grace (3DG) had to replace a lead singer in the begins of their career and quite possibly the worst time ever, as their popularity was at a high point.

3DG's self-titled release garnered a lot of air play and had a few hits. The success of that album and next three kept the band busy headlining and co-headlining tours, but when Adam Gontier left the band unexpectedly, that all changed. Instead of throwing in the towel, that band regrouped and recruited a new lead singer, Matt Walst, who has now been in the band for almost ten years. In this time, the band has recorded several albums including this year's Explosions. It's also the name of their current tour that came through Sunday night.

The Fillmore was packed, and the energy was kicked straight off by 3DG's intro music, House of Pain's "Jump Around." The whole place shook and continued to shake till the acoustic portion of the set, then right back again. Walst took every opportunity to encourage the crowd, and which kept the night's energy high and powerful. The crowd sang alone to every song which fed Walst's energy too.

The set was a nice mix of all the bands albums, but focused on One X, Life Starts Now, their new release, and their self-titled debut. The main set ended with the expected and crowd favorite, "I Hate Everything About You." The encore was just as rowdy as the main set ant "Riot" was by far the most appropriate song to end the evening with. You can see more picture here.
