Southern Jewish Identity Book Talk
Corie Adjmi will be hosting a talk on her book The Marriage Box on Wednesday January 10 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Museum of the Southern Jewish Experience.
The talk is free to all and will take place in person at the museum, with an option to join over Zoom for those interested. Adjmi will be sharing
stories on a variety of themes including her Southern/Jewish upbringing, finding
her own Jewish identity and meaning, and her experience of culture shock between
the North and South.

The Marriage Box is a fictional coming-of-age story
about Casey Cohen, a 16-year-old girl living in New Orleans whose life completely
changes when she suddenly makes a big move to New York City. Once living in the
big city, she joins a completely new community, one comprised of religious
Jewish school, shabbat dinners, and talk of marriage. The book delves into the
complex experiences of a young Jewish girl exploring her own identity in a
religious context completely foreign to her.
Corie Adjmi herself spent her childhood in New Orleans' Reform
Jewish community until she moved up north to New York and entered the world of
Orthodox Syrian Judaism in the city. Lovers of fiction, the Jewish American
experience, and coming of age stories that tug at the heart strings are
encouraged to register and join in on Wednesday, January 10.
