Steve Rapport Photography Exhibit

The New Orleans Jazz Museum is opening an exhibit on April 21 to honor the photographic legacy of Steve Rapport.

Rapport is a renowned music photographer who is known for his work on the London rock scene in the '80s and has photographed superstars such as David Bowie and Bruce Springsteen. Rapport was also one of 10 photographers to capture the largest concert of all time, Live Aid at Wembley Stadium. In March of 2022, Rapport planned a short trip to New Orleans, which turned into a permanent move to the city.

Rapport credits New Orleans with taking him out of a photography slump he had been in while living in California, calls Preservation Hall his "spiritual home," and finds immense inspiration in the Big Easy Music scene. He started photographing the city's jazz artists, especially the impact Black musicians have on the city's musical culture. The New Orleans Jazz Museum's exhibit, Less is More: The Photography of Steve Rapport, will follow from his early rock days to his most recent series of New Orleans jazz portraits. This is the first time these two sides of his career will be shown together.
