An Unforgettable Start of the Season
The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra will begin its 34th season with a performance of Symphonie Fantastique on September 12 at the Orpheum Theater. The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra is the only full-time collaboratively governed and operated orchestra in the United States and promises an exciting lineup of shows this season.
Symphonie Fantastique
Beginning at 7:30 p.m., the concert will start with Pulse, an orchestral work created by LSU professor Brian Raphael Nabors. This piece combines various phases of rhythm, each symbolizing different scenarios of life while maintaining a consistent musical "pulse."
After "Pulse" comes Paul Dukas' famous work "The Sorcerer's Apprentice." This symphonic poem gained mainstream popularity after being featured in the Disney film Fantasia but has been a popular concert piece for decades.
The program concludes with its namesake, Hector Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique. Symphonie Fantastique uses orchestral narrative to tell the story of an artist in the throws of unrequited love through striking melodies and dramatic contrasts.
Tickets for Symphonie Fantastique can be purchased for the gallery, balcony, dress circle, or orchestra seating here. Single tickets start at $35 and student pricing begins at $10 with proof of student ID.
