Chewbacchus 2026 Royalty
The
Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus, known for its rather eccentric parade perfectly designed for lovers of Star Wars, has announced its theme and royalty for Mardi Gras 2026.

There comes a time when things change; people come and they go. This year, the rightful king, or in this case, overlord, is getting the recognition he deserves.
Serving in the Sacred Drunken Wookiee for eight years, Richard Riggs, aka Overlord Dr. Strangelover, is retiring. Responsible for orchestrating parade lineups, iconic parade music selections, and creating the stunning parade art, Riggs has definitely poured his all into the organization.
Contributing to the Krewe of
Chewbacchus since 2018, Riggs will be officially crowned as royalty for 2026,
celebrating him for his leadership, creativity, and unforgettable presence
during his tenure.
"Rebellions Are Built On
Hope"
Celebrating its 15th season, this krewe looks to
wow yet again with its parade through the Bywater, Faubourg Marigny,
and French Quarter. Fitting a celebration that includes all people ,
this year's theme is "Rebellions Are Built On Hope,"
aligning with the mission of the
organization to showcase joy, satire, and
community. The parade, featuring
lightsabers, bandoliers, and laughter, is
set to roll on January 24, 2026.
NEW ROUTE
Route and Chewbacchanal After Party
Sure to be one of the favorite celebrations of the season, the parade sees a route that looks to be filled with surprises and a good time. The parade will roll from Franklin Avenue and St. Claude Avenue, pass through Elysian Fields, and finish on Decatur and Conti Street. Expect to see unique surprises and fan-favorite sub krewes along the journey of the cosmic celebration.
The
festivities will conclude with the Chewbacchanal After Party at the Fillmore New
Orleans. DJs, drinks, and other intergalactic activities look to fill the
night while capping an out-of-this-world celebration.
