The Kingsway

From Saffron NOLA Chef Ashwin Vilkhu comes The Kingsway, a new eatery highlighting the best of Asian fare.

Inspired by memories of growing up at Chef Vilku's family house in Gretna on Kingsway Drive, the restaurant features flavors from New Delhi, where his parents are from, as well as the local Vietnamese and Chinese cuisine available across New Orleans. Chef Vilkhu also takes influence from Singapore—a city where Asian culture and cuisine intersect.

The Kingsway arrives on the coattails of Saffron NOLA, the popular Uptown Restaurant where Vilkhu is co-executive chef with his father Arvinder Vilkhu. The Vilkhu's opened Saffron NOLA seven years ago, blending Indian cuisine and heritage with Louisiana's rich culinary tradition.

Saffron NOLA has since become a local favorite, earning a James Beard Foundation Award nomination for Best Chef: South in 2024.

The menu is a select, four course meal with a fixed price of $92. For starters, those dining with Kingsway can choose from the Crab, Brie, & Champagne Soup, the Tuna Solera, or the Refrigerator Noodles. The second course offers their ABC Chicken, Scallion Lamb, or Salt Baked Shrimp. Moving into the third course, patrons have a choice of the Duck Breast à L'Orange, the Herbed Snapper, or the Izakaya Steak. And lastly, dessert! Customers have the option of the Key Lime Pie or Chocolate Cake.

All of the dishes are made with the choicest ingredients, and The Kingsway is able to accommodate vegetarian customers and most dietary restrictions, excluding soy restrictions.

For drinks, Vilkhu brings Saffron NOLA Bar Manager Colin Williams and Sommelier Taylor Adams into the mix. Williams offers a menu of eight specialty cocktails, boasting drinks such as The Kings Way with gin, asian pear cordial, cocchi americano, and dry vermouth. Feeling adventurous? Go with the Pai Gow option and let the bartender surprise you. The wine list, tailored by Adams, offers a selection of Old World wines.

Looking for a non-alcoholic drink? Try their specialty teas, which are sure to delight. The tea menu offers six options of Taiwanese and Chinese tea blends to fit your fancy, including the Moonlight Pavilion—a white tea made with the smallest pure tea bud grown in China.
