Saints Win Against Cowboys
The narrative around the Saints, both in New Orleans and around the league, has quickly shifted through two weeks of football. On Sunday, the Saints went into Jerryworld and rolled through the Dallas Cowboys 44-19, dominating all aspects of the game.
It all starts with their offense. Under the new regime and system of Klint Kubiak, the offense is firing on all cylinders, with Carr throwing for an efficient 243 yards on 11/16 passing and Alvin Kamara turning back time with an 115 yard rushing and 65 yard receiving game, resulting in four touchdowns. The other standout through two weeks has been the speedy receiver Rashid Shaheed, who Carr again found open way deep down the field for a big score. The Saints power run game and a complimentary play action offense is meant to put these playmakers in the best position to get down the field and score points, and it has worked so far. Through two games, the Saints have scored the second most points of all time to start their season. The only other team that has scored more was the 2009 Saints, and we all know how that season turned out.
Defensively, the Saints forced two turnovers and made critical stops down the field, forcing the Cowboys dynamic offense to often settle for field goals even if they got deep down the field. Even without star cornerback Marshon Latimore, the Saints defensive backs took over this game defensively, as Alontae Taylor, Paulson Adebo, and rookie Kool-Aid Mckinstry stepped up in his absence.
The
Saints have another tough test next week against the Philadelphia Eagles. With
the start they have been having, expect the Superdome to be rocking this
upcoming Sunday for a key conference matchup.
