X Games Meets New Orleans
Hometown heroes, league legends, and legends soon-to-be made their mark all weekend long in New Orleans, bringing death-defying feats straight to the Superdome. From skateboarding to motocross, athletes from across the globe competed in 3-days worth of events regular dome-goers may have never seen before.
Greeted at the gates of Champions Square by a slew of suped-up cars and activations, fans walk straight into the electric feeling only the X Games could bring. The sight of massive concrete and dirt ramps erected directly onto Superdome floor are a feat in and of itself. As the weekend's competition progressed, fans were no stranger to seeing athletes at the top of their game launch themselves across these structures in their attempts to snag league fame, recognition, and a shiny new piece of noteworthy jewelry in the form of a coveted X Games medal.
Qualifying teams from New York, Los Angeles, Sao Paolo, and Tokyo, as well as a squad of free agents, competed in events from men and women's best trick skateboarding, dancing across the concrete like poetry in motion, to BMX and Motocross, launching themselves into the rafters across the Superdome ceilings. As athletes competed for their own medals and top spots in their own respective events, qualifying teams racked up points throughout the competition, with New York's team ultimately taking the top spot in the 2026 X Games Championship.
One of the best turnouts throughout X Games weekend was from the local New Orleans community. Local skateboarders turned out to represent the tight knit New Orleans skate community, including local skate shop Humidity and Parisite DIY Skatepark raising funds for upgrades to benefit the local extreme sports scene here in town and Eternal Seeds and Studio BE showcasing local artworks. Throughout the weekend, familiar faces graced the X Games stage including Flagboy Giz, Pierre the Pelican, and even competing athletes and Louisiana natives Wyatt Fontenot and Broc Raiford.
Both Friday and Saturday evenings, X Games
brought the house down with a music lineup featuring Metro Boomin, J.I.D.,
Subtronics, and Bunt. Sunday's festivities ended with a closing ceremony and
Louisiana's own "Battle of the Boot" competition. X Games weekend only proves
how symbiotic New Orleans culture and a global championship really can be.
Sporting events on this level showcase that it's so much more than just a
competition. It's a feat of human ability. It's an art. It's a culture.
