Ragged Branch Distillery Unveils Risen Star Reserve Bourbon in Louisiana

Ragged Branch Bourbon Distillery has announced the release of a limited-edition bourbon in Louisiana entitled Ragged Branch Risen Star Reserve Straight Bourbon Whiskey, commemorating the 1988 racing season of the thoroughbred Risen Star.

This special release brings together the tradition of Southern bourbon-making and Louisiana horse racing.

Honoring a Louisiana Racing Horse

Risen Star, owned by New Orleanians Ronnie Lamarque and Louis Roussel III, is best known for his victories in the Preakness and Belmont Stakes, missing the Triple Crown win by his sire, Secretariat, in 1973. Specifically, he was ridden by hall of fame jockey Eddie Delahoussaye.

"Risen Star was among the greatest stories in the history of Louisiana horse racing," Lamarque said in a press release. "Never before had New Orleanians rallied around a horse quite like they did with Risen Star. The excitement was unmatched."
