The Poydras Corridor Sculpture Exhibition

The Poydras Corridor Sculpture Exhibition (PCSE) has installed three new sculptures, bringing the total number of installments to 14.

The PSCE is a stretch of rotating sculpture installations along the neutral ground of Poydras Street between Convention Center Boulevard and N. Galvez Street. Presented by the Helis Foundation, this collection of public art, which has featured over 40 notable artists, is a key factor in New Orleans' position as the South's leading public art cities.

The Poydras Corridor Sculpture Exhibition was founded in 2013 aimed to promote diverse voices, make art free and accessible to all people, and bring color and creativity to the heart of downtown New Orleans.

The Latest Installments

Arlene Shechet returns to the Corridor with her new work Oomph! Stationed between Tchoupitoulas and Constance St. Shechet is the work of an award winning sculpture with pieces featured in over 50 public collections all over the world. Shechet is the first artist to be featured by PCSE for a second time. Her work is known for gravity-defying forms in bright colors, and for its mix of highly technical and intuitive formation. This piece is hand-made in plaster and later cast in bronze.

Julian Opie has two pieces added to the Corridor: Yellow Phone and Turqouise Hair. These are perched across Caesars Superdome. They are high-gloss paint over aluminum and, as the names suggest, beaming with color. The sculptures come to us from the 2023 Busan Walker series, and they are inspired by photographs of people in Busan, South Korea.

About the Helis Foundation

The Helis Foundation helps fund and maintain art in New Orleans through grants, which support free museum access, art acquisition, and public art installations.

"The Helis Foundation strives to bring a diversity of artistic voices to the Corridor to inspire visitors and locals alike, making world-class art accessible for everyone to see and enjoy. The Helis Foundation is able to achieve this through so much of its programming, including PCSE and Art for All," said Managing Director of the Helis Foundation Jessica Schott Haynes in a press release.

Art for All is an initiative to offer free museum admission for residents at places like the Contemporary Art Center, NOMA, the Botanical Garden, and more.
