Bayou Bar's Musical Director Peter Harris and his lively band put on a fantastic show to an absolutely packed house to celebrate the release of Peter Harris presents: Cryptic, Live at the Bayou Bar, Vol. 1. I would say that the show was sold out, but there was no list. Instead everyone who wanted to hear a few notes crowded inside and just outside of the doors. One could hardly see the famous bayou scenery mural against the far wall. Peter Harris took all of these listeners on a journey, orchestrating his crew to perform solos, soften the music, bring it back up, and turn it into a frenzy. This was a musical rollercoaster for sure. It was nearly impossible to focus on anything else despite the many sensory factors.
I was happy to see that the bar carried the new Absolut Tabasco which the bartender said was perfect for a spicy dirty martini. That drink was a tad more spicy than the band. Not to be outshined, Bayou Bar co-owners Chef Brian Landry and Emery Whalen planned a menu of little delicacies to show the versatility of the menu including very decadent truffle chocolates that melted so nicely as the music played. Fret not if you missed this one night event. Peter Harris can usually be found playing at Bayou Bar as the streetcar rolls behind him in one of several bands.
