Experience the Gemütlichkeit of German Culture
You don't have to be German to delight in the delicacy that is schnitzel and Berliner Weisse. So whether you're simply craving a traditional German meal or want to experience and indulge in a new and foreign culture, New Orleans' Oktoberfest is the place for you.
About the Festival
Oktoberfest New Orleans invites you to experience the gemütlichkeit (friendliness and warmth) of German culture! Taking place on October 11, 12, 18, 19, 25, 26, the festival will run from 4 p.m. until 11 p.m. on Fridays and 1 p.m. until 11 p.m. on Saturdays.
There will be a selection of delicious German food—with classic options like bratwurst and sauerkraut to street-food, beer, and desserts, alongside a lineup of local and out-of-state performers who will sing both traditional German and non-German music.
Oktoberfest will be hosted at the Deutsches Haus, located at 1700 Moss St. There will be paid parking at both the Deutsches Haus and Cabrini High School, alongside available street parking in the local neighborhood. For those who wish not to drive, bike parking is free, and the #48 Canal Streetcar stops at Carrollton and Esplanade, only a six minute walk from the event site. Admission to the festival is $10 for adults, and children 12 and under can enter free of charge. The event is open to the public; however, members get special perks and access to the inside of the Deutsches Haus during the festival.
Oktoberfest is a family-friendly event and invites parents and families to bring their children with them to the festival. The dog parade, Chicken Dance contest, and the "Schnitzelbank" singing game are light-hearted and fun ways that the youth can experience German culture. There will be sodas and waters, and the Imbiss (snack) Booth will offer chicken nuggets and French fries for those who aren't inclined to sauerkraut.
Gather your friends and family, and grab your best beer mug, because Oktoberfest invites you to enjoy a vibrant celebration of culture this October!
