Dat Dog's Second Annual Fourth of July Fest

Nothing screams Fourth of July like a hot dog eating contest. New Orleans' Dat Dog plans to commemorate Independence Day with its second annual Fourth of July Fest, which includes one of the only hot dog eating contests in NOLA.

The celebration will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. on Independence Day at Dat Dog's Freret Street location.

Join the Contest

Dat Dog has created a new local challenge for Independence Day—an annual hot dog eating contest. To win, a contestant must eat the most hot dogs without throwing up in 10 minutes. Although the challenge seems simple, fans of the Nathan's Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest know that is not the case.

To enter the contest, participants must be at least 18 years old and pay a non-refundable entry fee of $25, unless they are competing on behalf of a charity. Future contestants can register on the company's website, where a list of contest rules is also available.

Following 10 minutes of speed eating, Dat Dog will crown one contestant as the hot dog-eating champion. The winner will receive a grand prize of $500.

Meet the Organizers

After its founding in 2011, Dat Dog transformed from a small hot dog stand to a local franchise with three locations. Although Dat Dog sells a variety of classic American dishes, the business is best known for its specialty hot dogs and bratwursts.

Dat Dog is no stranger to extreme food challenges. The Magazine and Freret locations offer the "Datzilla" challenge, which requires a contestant to eat five hot dogs loaded with cheese fries and tater tots in 20 minutes. If the guest succeeds in finishing the meal without vomiting, they win a t-shirt as well as a refund.

Judge the Dog Design Contest

If extreme food challenges are not for you, don't worry. You can still satisfy your craving for hot dogs with a sample of finalists of the Son of a Saint Dog Design Contests.

For the past 11 years, Dat Dog has partnered with Son of a Saint to sponsor the dog design contests. Contestants can submit ideas and recipes for a new hot dog to add to the restaurant's menu. The winning hot dog will raise funds for Son of a Saint, a program that provides mentorship to young men who have lost their fathers.

The Land of the Free and Home of the Hot Dog

On July 4th, support a good cause and visit Dat Dog's Freret Street location. If you are feeling especially hungry, register for the hot dog eating contest before it is too late.
