Bastille Day New Orleans

Celebrate Bastille Day and all things French with the Alliance Française de la Nouvelle-Orléans at their annual fête, taking place this year on July 11.

What to Expect

The celebration will include an assortment of French delicacies—wine, baguettes, and lots and lots of cheese. Eat your way through delicious French cuisine and hit the dance floor where there will be live music from local artists.

Don't forget to wear your best French outfit. If you forget your beret, don't worry, you can no doubt find something to spruce up your French style at the booths of the craft vendors. Better yet, you will be supporting local artists who will be selling their products at the festival.

There will even be a costume contest for who can dress the most "French." Think stripes. Think berets. Think that little bit of je ne sais quoi.

The festivities, which are sponsored this year by Hotel Maison Saint Charles, Soleau Group, and Juan Lafonta Law Firm, will take place on July 11 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Adult tickets are $13 per person, and children's tickets are $10 per person. Have a fantastic night and be filled with joie de vivre!

What is Bastille Day?

Bastille Day, or the Fête de la Fédération, is a yearly commemoration of the 1789 ransacking of the Bastille prison. This revolutionary attack marked the beginning of the French Revolution and the decade of violence to come.

Aside from its bloody origins, Bastille Day has come to be a lively celebration throughout many countries. It is an annual marker of French unity and a reminder of when the French people gathered together against an oppressive regime. The holiday also celebrates the establishment of the French Republic.
