Creative Assembly Cohort
The New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) is currently accepting applications for its 2024-25 Creative Assembly Cohort, a residency program that fosters community engagement by connecting local artists with the museum's resources. Artists from various disciplines can apply until Friday, September 27, 2024.
Launched in 2021, this program aims to support artists' development and create participatory art experiences, emphasizing community collaboration and social change. Participants benefit from professional development workshops, mentorship opportunities, and support for public programs.
The program showcases a diverse range of artistic disciplines. Previous cohorts have included projects such as video works, live performances, workshops on poetry and traditional crafts, and site-specific dance performances. The selection process aims to amplify various art forms and highlight artists' unique community perspectives.
NOMA's Chief Educator Dr. Redell Hearn emphasized in a press release that the program offers artists a unique opportunity to work within a museum setting and collaborate with local communities. Community Engagement Manager Kelci Baker noted that these projects have expanded visitors' expectations of museum experiences.
The 2024-25 cohort is partially supported by the Darryl Chappell Foundation, which aims to empower Black artists and promote their impact on local communities.
