About the Expansion

Across seven regions of Louisiana, current recipients of the FMNP can spend the annual $30 balance on their FMNP cards, despite enrollment in this year's FMNP ending. Recipients can choose from one of two options to help double their spending power, with program details varying by location.

For the first option, those who have spent all 2026 issued FMNP funds from their card can visit a Greaux the Good partner farmers market. Here, they can ask market staff to check if their FMNP card balance is zero and receive a match of $30 in market currency to spend with vendors. For the second option, recipients who have a current balance are able to shop with one of Greaux the Good's farm stand partners for a 50 percent discount on eligible items.

Both of these options will allow shoppers to effectively double the dollars available to spend. When shoppers use their FMNP card at participating farm stands, the 50 percent discount is automatically applied. When the FMNP card balance is verified as zero, the $30 is issued in market currency at participating farmers markets.

"Not only do we want to make sure every FMNP dollar available to Louisiana seniors and families is used, we also want to make sure those benefits are maximized before they expire," said Director of Greaux the Good Madeline Pears in a press release. "These incentives help shoppers take home even more fresh, locally grown food while supporting the farmers in their communities."

Several of the partnering farmers with Greaux the Good are bringing local, fresh produce directly to senior housing communities in residences, especially encouraging seniors in the Hammond area and surrounding communities to check the balance on their FMNP cards. Additionally, recipients facing transportation or mobility barriers can still utilize and maximize their FMNP benefits through these assisted visits.

All benefits will expire on November 30, 2026.
