NOLA Black Tattoo Expo 2025
The New Orleans Black Tattoo Expo is making history as the Crescent City's first convention to highlight the contributions of Black tattoo artists. From November 8 to 9, the Ashé Cultural Arts Center will welcome the South's top Black tattoo artists to showcase their talent and artwork.
The New Orleans Black Tattoo Expo seeks to connect people of color with artists who share their culture and experiences. By doing so, both tattoo artists and customers will have a welcoming space that fosters collaboration and creativity.
Events
The main attraction of the New Orleans Black Tattoo Expo, of course, is the opportunity to receive a one-of-a-kind tattoo from the region's best artists. Throughout the weekend, tattoo artists will be designing and creating tattoos for attendees.
For those who are afraid of needles, the New Orleans Black Tattoo Expo aims to celebrate all art forms, not just tattooing. Visitors can browse the booths of local art vendors who will stage a craft market in Ashé. The event also plans to have live painting and art demonstrations.

Tattoo artists can also gain valuable insight into the industry through educational seminars and workshops. Artists hoping to become involved can visit NOLA Black's website for more details.
Organizers
The New Orleans Black Tattoo Expo stems from a collaboration among the Black Tattoo Anthology, Hell or High Water Tattoo Studio, and Shaw Art Gallery. Each of these three organizations shares the same vision: to celebrate the Black artists who have shaped the art form.
The Black Tattoo Anthology is a national nonprofit that provides tools and resources to Black tattoo artists across the U.S. The organization aims to amplify the voices of Black artists by promoting an inclusive community.

Hell or High Water Tattoo Studio is one of the only tattoo shops in New Orleans owned and operated by a Black woman. Owner Mecca Theodore has received national recognition not only for her talent as an artist but also for her efforts to better the New Orleans tattoo industry.
Tyrell Shaw, a New Orleans-based artist, owns and operates the Shaw Art Gallery and Studio. Shaw's artwork often features scenes from everyday life in New Orleans, offering viewers a fresh perspective through which to view the city.
Attend the Convention
Tickets for the convention are available on NOLA Black's website, with single-day tickets costing $20 and weekend passes costing $30. Visit the New Orleans Black Tattoo Expo and, maybe, you will leave with a new piece or two.
