The New Orleans Film Society presents the 26th Annual New Orleans French Film Festival. The event features in-person screenings from Mar. 9-13 at the Prytania Theatre Uptown and Prytania Theatres at Canal Place. A virtual component will run from Mar. 9-19.
The lineup features 13 features and 3 short films in French or Kouri-Vini (Louisiana Creole) with English subtitles. The opening night film is Madeleine Collins, the story of a woman living a double life spanning two countries. The closing night film is Revoir Paris, the story of a woman recovering from the trauma of being caught in a terrorist attack on a Parisian bistro.
Louisiana will also be represented via the festival's shorts program. Luke Hariss' narrative short Tambou was a winner of the 2022 #CreateLouisiana French Culture Grant. It tells the story of Emmanuel, a grandfather who busks with his tambou drum on the streets of New Orleans when faced with the prospect of losing his home due to mounting bills.
Director Autumn Palen's documentary short Voices of Renewal examines the modern revitalization movement for the Louisiana Creole language, which is currently only spoken by around 5,000 people.
In addition to screenings, there will be a patron party on March 8, available to all access pass holders at the Alliance Franchise de La Nouvelle-Orleans. Drinks, lite food, live music from Bart Ramsey, and mingling will all take place. All access passes are $95.
Tickets can be purchased for individual films and all-access passes can be purchased for the entire festival. In-person tickets are $13 for NOFS members and $16 for the general public. Virtual screenings are $9 for NOFS members and $11 for the general public. Discounts are also available for students and teachers.
