Interview with the Vampire Celebrates 50 Years With Special Edition and New Orleans Events
50 years after Anne Rice introduced readers to Louis, Lestat, and the supernatural side of New Orleans, Interview with the Vampire celebrates this anniversary with a special collector's edition and a series of Halloween events in the city that inspired it.
First published in 1976, Rice's debut novel follows Louis de Pointe du Lac, a Louisiana plantation heir whose life changes when he is transformed into a vampire by the mysterious Lestat. The novel launched Rice's Vampire Chronicles, helped redefine modern Gothic fiction, and introduced generations of readers to her haunting interpretation of New Orleans.
To mark the milestone, Rice's son, bestselling author Christopher Rice, and her longtime friend and collaborator, Eric Shaw Quinn, are returning to New Orleans for a series of Halloween celebrations.

Anne Rice's Lasting Legacy in New Orleans
Anne Rice's relationship with New Orleans extended far beyond the setting of her most famous novel.
Born in the city in 1941, Rice spent years living in the Garden District, where her former home at 1239 First St. became closely associated with her supernatural fiction. The historic property also served as inspiration for the Mayfair family home featured in her novel The Witching Hour.
New Orleans' architecture, history, and atmosphere helped shape many of Rice's fictional worlds. In Interview with the Vampire, the city serves as more than a backdrop, becoming an important part of the characters' lives and the novel's Gothic atmosphere.
Throughout her career, Rice wrote 36 novels that sold more than 150 million copies worldwide. Her works include The Vampire Chronicles, The Lives of the Mayfair Witches, The Mummy, and The Wolf Gift Chronicles, among others.
Her storytelling brought a new perspective to supernatural fiction by portraying vampires, witches, and other traditionally feared creatures as complex characters with emotional struggles and moral conflicts.
Following her death in 2021, Rice was laid to rest in Metairie Cemetery. Her influence continues through her books and their adaptations, including the 1994 film Interview with the Vampire and AMC's television adaptation.
