New Orleans has long been considered one of the top must-see cities in the US, what with Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest, and many festivals and holidays in between, there's always a reason to stop by.

This year, the FIFA World Cup will be hosted in cities neighboring New Orleans. If you're planning to travel to one of these nearby cities, consider an extra couple of nights in the Big Easy, and pick from one of these award-winning, affordable hostels to call "home."

1. HI New Orleans Hostel

It's housed in a renovated and modernized historic downtown building. This hostel is expansive and spacious and in a central location, located just steps from the French Quarter.

2. Madame Isabelle's House

A hostel with a history, Madame Isabelle's House was erected in 1831, nearly two hundred years ago, and became the home of Madame Isabelle's family at the turn of the 20th century. Passed down and renovated until the family left in the 2000's, this historic house has a taste of the past with the functionality of the modern. 3. India House Hostel

India House Backpackers Hostel is one of the longest standing hostels in New Orleans, with over 28 years in the game. Located in Mid-City, the location promises a neighborhood feel with easy access to the city—the streetcar is just a couple of blocks away. The house is known for its laid-back, social atmosphere.

4. Auberge Nouvelle Orleans

Marquette House Hostel is a functional, budget-friendly option located a block away from St. Charles. The location puts travelers right at the streetcar and near iconic New Orleans spots such as Hot Tin and famous Mardi Gras routes.
