Bayou Boogaloo Celebrates 20th Anniversary

This year, the Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo Festival will take place at new locations while celebrating music, art, and community.

Formerly anchored along Bayou St. John, attendees will gather to enjoy live music, artistry, and food. 2026 will mark Bayou Boogaloo's 20th anniversary, with familiar events and some changes. The festival will begin on Friday, May 15 and run throughout the weekend. There will also be a free outdoor market operating from Saturday, May 16 to Sunday, May 17 that will feature local artists and food vendors.

A New Location

This year, Bayou Boogaloo will take place across two venues: The Broadside and the Pitot House. Organizers see the change as a creative reset, driven by rising costs, logistical challenges, and community considerations. While the change alters the physical landscape of the event, it also marks the start of a reimagined layout and new experience for attendees.

Music, Food and Local Culture

Bayou Boogaloo remains committed to showcasing regional culture. The Broadside will host three days of live music across multiple stages, highlighting local performers. Attendees can also explore the outdoor market, featuring over 60 vendors that offer Louisiana cuisine and handmade arts and crafts. The event puts an emphasis on supporting local businesses and artists.

Featured performers who will be at the Broadside include Neonautica, Colin Daivs & Night People, Anaïs St. John doing a tribute to Donna Summer, Big Chief Brian & the Nouveau Bounce with James Andrews, Tom Worrell, River Eckert Band, Where Y'acht, Al "Little Fats" Jackson, Jared Daws, Jay Dufour, Sinead Angele Band, Davis Rogen, Hollyrock, and Two-Toned Merigold.

Featured performers who will be at the Pitot House include Desert Nudes, Dusky Waters, Shawn Williams, Johnny Vidacovich Trio, Kristin Diable, and Robert Eustis with Andre Bohren.

Food for this year's festival will be provided by 4 of Us Catering and DA GM's Smoke Soul & BBQ.

Differences in 2026

A noticeable change in 2026 is the absence of the festival's bayou floating scene. In past years, attendees gathered in kayaks and inflatable rafts to watch performances from the waters of Bayou St. John. While that tradition is on pause, organizers have suggested in could return in future years under more sustainable conditions.

Admission and Accessibility

The updated format is reflected in the festival's ticketing options. General admission for music events at the Broadside starts at $50 for a weekend pass, while the Canopy VIP experience is priced at about $200 for full access.

The VIP experience gives attendees access to the Pitot House on Saturday and Sunday. There, guests can enjoy a more intimate outdoor setting along Bayou St. John. The experience will also feature local music artists, complimentary food and drinks, and a relaxed atmosphere set on the historic property. The outdoor market remains free and open to the public, preserving a level of accessibility.

Tickets for both passes can be purchased online.

A Festival Celebrating Tradition

While longtime attendees may miss the bayou setting, this year's festival offers a chance to see how the New Orleans tradition can adapt while staying fixed in its roots.
