For a weekend day out, take a ride on the ferry and over the Mississippi River to the Westbank. You’ll be pulled by a famous variety of melodies vibrating the muddy waters, only to land right where your stomach and ears need to be: The 24th Gretna Heritage Festival. The annual festival will be held on the weekend of September 28-30, 2018.

By upping the entertainers and festival events each year, Gretna Fest has become another one of the city’s must-not-miss Fall festivals. This years' headlining performers happen to be disco hitmakers Village People (Friday, Sept. 28), award-winning country duo Montgomery Gentry (Sunday, Sept. 30), and one of the best-selling music artists of all time, Foreigner (Saturday, Sept. 29).

What other melodies will trapse over the river? A variety of music that will be performed by both local musicians and famous ones on each festival day. On Friday (3 p.m. - 11:15 p.m.), you can smooth and groove to disco and R&B, while Saturday (1:30 p.m. - 12:30 p.m.) is for explosive rock and Sunday (11:30 p.m. - 7 p.m.) is reserved for good old country.

With five stages to check out and 25 blocks of entertainment to cover, you won’t want to forget your comfortable walking shoes. You’ll need them to view the opening parade, visit the German Beer Garden, meet up at the football fan gathering event called “the Ultimate Tailgate Experience," and enjoy carnival rides, diverse food booths, and their 1st annual vintage car show.

And if that ferry ride isn’t your go-to transport, Oakwood Center in Terrytown and the JP School Systems at 501 Manhattan Blvd in Harvey will offer free parking and a free shuttle to the festival.

Tickets will go on sale Friday (August 17) via their website, gretnafest.com. Single Day Passes are $30 online and $35 at gate. Weekend Pass are $77.50 online and $90 at gate. Children 12 and under free.
