Walk to End Alzheimer's NOLA
The Alzheimer's Association invites all Greater New Orleans area residents to join them on the Walk to End Alzheimer's, which will be held on October 18.
The Walk to End Alzheimer's is the world's largest event dedicated to the research, support, and care of those living with Alzheimer's. The walk will begin at the Shrine on Airline (6000 Airline Dr., Metairie, LA 70003) at 9 a.m. Register here to participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer's.
Walk Manager for the New Orleans walk Temika Dixon stated in a press release, "This is a pivotal moment in the fight against Alzheimer's; there are now treatments that can change the course of the disease." Community members are encouraged to join the walk by starting a team to help the Alzheimer's Association raise awareness and funds for families facing the disease today. Your participation in the walk helps take steps towards finding an effective treatment and, ultimately, a cure.

Promise Garden Ceremony
On walk day, participants honor those affected by Alzheimer's with a poignant Promise Garden ceremony—a mission-focused experience that signifies our solidarity in the fight against the disease. During the ceremony, walkers will carry flowers of various colors, each color representing their personal connection to the disease. This ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m.
The Disease
In the United States, seven million Americans live with Alzheimer's disease. It is the leading cause of death of adults in the country. This disease impacts the lives of countless Americans. In Louisiana, there are more than 94,700 people aged 65+ living with the disease and 252,000 family members and friends serving as caregivers. We must do our part to help fund and find effective treatments to put an end to Alzheimer's.

This year, the New Orleans walk recognizes the executive leadership team, consisting of consists of Chair Nicole Kavanaugh, Edward Jones, Kelly Martin, Laurel Senior Living, Joyce Rau, and Edward Jones. These contributing members assist in the planning and execution of the walk.
