Crowe in NOLA
After seeing Russell Crowe's name in a local paper that he would be appearing at the world-famous Tipitina's, my first thought was this will be a nice photo op but I would bring a good pair of earplugs for certain.
I attended the show at Tipitina's on August 21 to a pretty
packed house. I went more out of curiosity than anything; however, it was not
what I expected. After digging into Russell Crowe's background a little bit, it
turns out he was a musician well before he was a world renowned actor. He began
his career in an Australian band called 30 Odd Foot of Grunts and released three full
length albums before breaking up in 2005.
Since that time, Crowe's voice has grown deeper and more practiced. He took the stage at Tip's around 9:30 and immediately began a set mixed with originals and covers. At one point, he tried to quiet the crowd to tell a story as he is often known to do on this tour. However, the revel of the fans on this night did not allow it. Crowe was upset, called everyone "rude," and finished his set. The crowd responded with roars of approval for Maximus Decimus Meridius and for the music, too.
