The 2026 Edition Of Louisiana Contemporary
The Ogden Museum of Southern Art selected 28 artists on July 1 for the 2026 edition of Louisiana Contemporary, the museum's annual exhibition that celebrates contemporary artists from across Louisiana.
The exhibition is a testament to new ideas, with 50 works by 45 artists selected by Jurors Sarah Jones, Lulu C. and Anthony W. Wang Head of Live Arts from The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Presented by The Helis Foundation, Louisiana Contemporary will be displayed at the Ogden Museum from August 1, 2026, to February 12, 2027.
Amy Newell, director of exhibitions at the museum, shared that Louisiana Contemporary reminds her of the artistic talent across the region.
"I'm continually inspired not only by the volume of submissions we receive, but by the originality, ambition, and diversity of the work," Newell said in a press release, adding that one of the most rewarding aspects of this process is welcoming new voices alongside artists that have supported and shaped the exhibition. "Each exhibition builds on the legacy of those before it while introducing fresh perspectives, ensuring that Louisiana Contemporary continues to evolve and reflect the dynamic landscape of art in our state."

About Louisiana Contemporary
In 2012, the Ogden Museum launched Louisiana Contemporary to honor artists living in the state and display artistic practices. Louisiana Contemporary serves as a pivotal moment that recognizes and celebrates creative voices from the upcoming Louisiana arts community. With the Helis Foundation's support, the museum recognizes four exhibiting artists for their work's originality and artistic merit. Every award includes a grant and special recognition at the museum. The Helis Foundation Art Prize is the exhibition's top honor, which includes an unrestricted $5,000 grant.
The reception for Louisiana Contemporary will present the award winners on July 31 before the public opening of the exhibition on August 1 during the Fidelity Bank White Linen Night, which is a community-wide celebration of art and culture.
Members and visitors of the exhibition are invited to join Sarah Jones, juror, for a discussion of August 1 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Jones will discuss selections of work from the exhibition with participating artists to offer their insights into artistic practices. Space is limited to this gallery talk, so plan ahead of time.
Located on 925 Camp St., the Ogden Museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information on the museum, visit their website or call (504) 539-9600.
