Jazz Fest on May 4, 2025
by Donald Rickert
Far removed from his stint at calling himself Romeo Blue, Lenny Kravitz made an appearance at Jazz Fest this year.
Although he's a way beyond his seminal, breakthrough record, Are You Gonna Go My Way, Kravitz had a lot to offer the Jazz Fest attendees.
While steeped in classics, Kravitz started the show with newer tunes. In one of the songs, "TK421," Kravitz, who normally plays guitar while he sings, played some bass. Granted, he is a noted multi-instrumentalist, and he's played every instrument on some records.
At one point in the set, Kravitz stopped to wax poetically about his "home," New Orleans, and even mentioned his former address on Dauphin.
While Kravitz was rocking the Festival Stage, renown slide guitarist Sonny Landrith was blasting out his interpretation of the blues in the Blues Tent. Landrith also made an appearance at the Maple Leaf during his visit and playing with local talent, including local bassist Corey Duplechin, who also plays with Louisiana native Tab Benoit, who played the first Sunday of Jazz Fest 2025.
