In honor of
Martin Luther King, Jr., the Black Male Initiative, an outreach program of NAACP NOLA, and the Dillard University Center for Racial Justice will present Songs of Civil
Rights at the Historic St. James African Methodist
Episcopal Church,
located at 222 N. Roman St., on Saturday, January 15, at 6:30 p.m.
The show,
which honors the work of civil rights activists throughout history, will
feature several classic songs from the civil rights movement. Dillard President
Dr. Walter Kimbrough will deliver a keynote address to the audience.
Dillard
University is a historically Black university that empowers students to use
ethics and critical-thinking skills to improve the world. The university's
Center for Racial Justice's mission is to bring social change to the way
minorities are treated in their communities. Their vision is to "work with the
community to address racism and justice."
The show is
free and open to the public.
