Hogs For The Cause

By: Gustavo Escanelle

The 11th Annual of Hogs For The Cause. The annual two day fundraising event featuring nationally music talent alongside amateur and professional BBQ competitors at the UNO Lakefront Arena Fields on March 29 and March 30, 2019.

What used to be just a little barbecue competition has really grown into a world of its own. As attendees strolled throughout the maze-like festival grounds, their nostrils filled with the scent of roasting pork made in a million different ways, their eyes were tantilized with incredible pun-heavy team names, costumes, and massive presentations. One team even brought in sand to create an artificial beach which was a huge hit with little ones. There were plenty of BBQ joint booths, but the little Asian restaurant recreation was my favorite. Lest I forget the incredible musical line-up on several stages with the likes of Samantha Fish, the Lost Bayou Ramblers, and so many more fantastic artists.

I do believe the festival could have benefitted from signs explaining where the entrace to the festival was, more money-loading stations, and a few more seating areas, but it was such a tasty treat to attend. -Emily Hingle
