Commander's Palace is always a top choice for high-end diners when they want to eat somewhere special, and that sentiment is more special than ever during Christmas time. Right now, as you enter the famed, long-running restaurant, you are greeted at the door with jingle bells placed around your neck. After you are seated, the outstanding service that Commander's is known for begins with the addition of being serenaded by a wandering trio of Christmas carolers. Commander's Palace lunch diners can expect to be entertained by carolers who wend around the dining rooms singing your favorite Christmas carols. The carolers will make an appearance at each lunch until the 24th.
On this day I dined on seasonal delicacies crafted by Chef Tory McPhail including Autumn Vegetable Fritto Misto, Sweet Potato & Roasted Chicken Soup, and the renowned Commander's Turtle Soup to begin with. Our entrees were stunning! The Gulf Fish Meuniere was a blackened drum fish that sat atop a bed of crawfish-boiled mirlitons, cornichons, celery, and fingerling potatoes. I absolutely could not get over the perfectly-seared, plump Brown Butter Scallops that were served on Meyer lemon-roasted artichoke hearts, brabant potatoes, absinthe-creamed winter greens, and champagne blue crab butter. Of course, there were truffled pomme frites leaning against the scallops for a touch of crispiness. No lunch at Commander's would be complete with a touch of sweetness. The Chocolate Bar was almost too rich, but the flaked salt across it perfectly balanced out the sweetness.
A feast for the mouth, the eyes, and now the ears, Commander's Palace is the ultimate destination for your holiday lunches. It will be talked about for years to come!
