Coconut Tres Leches at Compère Lapin

Caribbean-born chef Nina Compton brings the flavors of home to New Orleans in her new Warehouse District restaurant, Compère Lapin.  The name of the restaurant, which roughly translated, means “Brother Rabbit”, is borrowed from the title of a folktale from Nina’s childhood, about a naughty little trouble-making bunny.  Have a taste of the Caribbean Islands for dessert, with the decadent Coconut Tres Leches.  Served in a little clamp-top jar, it’s lusciously spongy coconut cake, coconut milk, and toasted coconut, topped with whipped cream and a coconut cookie.  Though you may not be surrounded by bright blue waters and palm trees, the scenery is still picturesque. The restaurant and adjoining hotel are decorated with local artwork sourced from NOCCA, and the dining room and bar (and the cocktails produced there) are design masterpieces in their own right. So is dessert.
