This month, Blue Bikes are going pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Until October 31, there will be 50 Blue Bikes featuring pink baskets with designs that highlight the importance of mammograms, which help to catch breast cancer in its earliest stages.

Breast cancer is said to be one of the most common cancer diagnoses in the United States, according to the CDC. While breast cancer is commonly diagnosed in women ages 50 and older, younger women and men can be affected too.

Going Pink to Raise Awareness

Blue Bikes is an affordable bike share program specifically designed for New Orleans. Blue Bikes offers hundreds of pedal-assist e-bikes, which allows riders to bike effortlessly. Blue Bikes provides additional transportation options for residents and visitors of New Orleans for an affordable cost.

"We are thrilled to bring back the annual #RidePinkNOLA campaign to raise awareness of breast cancer and remind everyone that getting screened could save your life," said Patrick Urbine, Blue Krewe Community Engagement Manager, in a press release.

"It's a fantastic example of how our locally run bikeshare program is not only bringing affordable transportation options to New Orleanians, it's promoting community health and wellness. Look for one of the special pinkbikes this month, and share with us on social media why you #RidePinkNOLA," Urbine said.

Riders who find a pink basket on a Blue Bike during October are encouraged take and share pictures on social media with the hashtag #RidePinkNOLA. Riders can also follow Blue Bikes on social media to see more about locations regarding where to find the bikes with pink baskets.

Blue Krewe is the local nonprofit operator of Blue Bikes, and recently, Blue Krewe celebrated two years of community-run bike share in New Orleans. Bike share riders have taken more than half a million trips in New Orleans with Blue Bikes since 2021.

On Blue Bikes website, a map is available of the bike share program's service area and main locations. Blue Bikes can be found in multiple neighborhoods all throughout New Orleans.
