The Jewish Children's Regional Service's 8th Annual "Latkes with a Twist" was presented Sunday, December 11 to a sold-out crowd inside Press Street Station.

The event, touted by the Washington Post as "one of America's most amazing Hanukkah Parties" was a fundraiser for the JCRS.

Latkes, a potato pancake or fritter in the Ashkenazi Jewish tradition, can be plain, or topped. This year, Dan Stein, owner of Stein's Deli and Dan Esses, chef at Rimon Tulane Hillel served up a traditional latke, a Lox latke, and my personal favorite - the reuben latke, alongside fried rice and veggie egg rolls presented as sides. There were a variety of amazing donuts for dessert, flavored with hazelnut, chocolate, strawberry, and even dulce de leche toppings. In addition to beer, wine, seltzer, and soda, there were two themed cocktails: The Vodka Latke punch, and the Marigny Miracle, a Bourbon Rye cocktail, presented by Zony Mash and the Sazerac House respectively.

The Joe Gelini trio performed lively tunes while the guests mingled, drank, ate, and bid on a variety of silent auction items to raise money for Jewish Children's Regional Service. There were loads of incredible items, including a signed Saints jersey, Pelicans courtside tickets, a Zurich Classic package, gift cards to Ruth's Chris, The Company Burger, Pizza Delicious, Saba, a future performance of the Rebirth Brass Band, and art from Ashley Longshore and Peter Seltzer, to name just some of the amazing offerings.

This event occurs yearly, and with $36 tickets ($40) at the door, I highly encourage you to check it out next year! I promise you're gonna latke it!
