'tit Rəx 2026

The 'tit Rəx parade is set to return for the 2026 Mardi Gras season with its walking procession through the St. Roch and Marigny neighborhoods.

The parade is scheduled for Sunday, February 1 and is known for its miniature-sized floats.

Founded in 2008, 'tit Rəx was created as an alternative to the city's large float parades. According to the organization, the parade was designed to emphasize craftsmanship and participation over size, using miniature floats instead of traditional full-scale parade units. According to their website, the 2026 parade theme is "Fun Size."

Miniature Floats and Participation

The defining feature of the 'tit Rəx parade is its use of shoebox-sized floats. Each float is built by a participating group or individual and is pushed or pulled along the parade route. The small format allows observers to view the floats up close and see details that would be difficult to notice on larger parade floats.

Participation in the parade is typically restricted to those involved in the krewe, with approximately 30 floats allowed each year. Each float is limited to a small number of participants, helping keep the parade manageable on neighborhood streets. This structure has remained consistent since the parade's early years. According to their website, the parade also has a 17 year waitlist to join or add a float. Each float is assigned two riders and a "float-master" responsible for construction. This keeps the parade somewhat compact and manageable on the neighborhood streets.

Parade Route and Throws

The parade route this year begins near the St. Roch Tavern on St. Roch Avenue and moves towards St. Claude Avenue, then turns onto Music Street and Franklin Avenue before heading to Royal Street, Mandeville Street, Burgundy Street, and Marigny Street. The parade finishes back on St. Claude near the AllWays Lounge.

In terms of the throws, 'tit Rəx focuses less on standard, commercialized throws and more on creative items that match the floats' theme and message. There is not a high volume of beads like in larger parades, but audiences often receive smaller, more focused throws tied to the floats' theme.

Family-Friendly Nature & Place In Carnival Season

Within the Mardi Gras calendar, 'tit Rəx is often seen as a smart option for families and children. The parade's daytime schedule, neighborhood route, and miniature-sized format makes it easier for younger individuals to view the procession up close without large crowds or long waits.

Because the floats are miniature and move at a slower pace, spectators are able to walk alongside the parade and interact with float-masters or participants as it passes. This structure, combined with the limited use of large vehicles and fast-moving throws has positioned 'tit Rəx as a parade that works well for families looking for a calmer Carnival experience.

As the parade returns for the 2026 season, it continues to offer a lower-key structure amongst the broader range of New Orleans' Carnival traditions.
