Sunday, October 18, is a holiday we should all definitely be celebrating: It is National Chocolate Cupcake Day. And obviously, the most appropriate way to honor this day is by eating a chocolate cupcake. We wanted everyone to know how to take advantage of such a momentous occasion, so Where Y'at has provided five bakeries that have excellent choices for chocolate cupcakes around New Orleans.

The Cupcake Collection

The Cupcake Collection has an extensive selection of chocolate cupcakes to pick from for National Chocolate Cupcake Day. The classic chocolate cupcake is topped with buttercream frosting. The premium flavors include Blackout, Café Mocha, Campfire S'mores, Cookies N Cream, Marble, and Peanut Butter Mousse. The bakers at Cupcake Fairies believe that every batch should be magical. These enchanted confections start at $3.50 for a standard-sized cupcake and $6 for a jumbo one. The new specialty flavors are king cake, Queen Kelder, bourbon, and cupcake pudding.They have a dozen "sprites," which are mini cupcakes, for $15. The standard size is known as a "pixie," and a dozen of those are $33; and the jumbos are called "elves," and they are $55 for a dozen. Voodoo Sweets

This online bakery is exceptional, and they stay very busy. Voodoo Sweets is only open Monday through Wednesday, from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., but they deliver on Saturdays. Be sure to order your cupcakes for National Chocolate Cupcake Day beforehand, so you can get a chance to taste these delicious desserts. The bakery has four chocolate cupcakes to choose from besides your traditional chocolate cupcake. The Oreo Cookie is a chocolate cupcake baked with Oreo pieces and covered with cookies and cream icing, with a mini Oreo as a topper. The yummy buttery cake is dusted with chocolate cocoa and finished with mini chocolate-covered graham crackers. Lady B also includes gluten-free options for cupcakes. Glitz Amor bakes their organic treats from scratch, and they have vegan options, too. Cupcakes come by the dozen, and this bakery has various chocolate flavors to pick from, including basic chocolate, double chocolate, and s'mores. The bakers ask that you pre-order your cupcakes one week ahead of the date that you need them, but it's okay.
