New Orleans has the distinction of being a UNESCO City of Music (one of only two in the United States), and people come from the world over to experience our live music scene. NOLA MusiCon is an increasingly important event that explores our city's relationship to the live music and entertainment industry and understanding its role to the greater economy. The several panels and discussions that took place over three days at the George & Joyce Wein Jazz & Heritage Center examined the state of live music in New Orleans as well as how well the people who make it are faring. The role of AI in creative endeavors was heavily discussed, and music makers were educated about registering their music to receive royalties from the MLC, how to read contracts, and how to take stronger control over the career and music.
While New Orleans may (temporarily) lose its UNESCO status (if the federal administration chooses to leave the UN), the city and its colorful array of musicians will always draw people here, and that spirit shows in NOLA MusiCon.
