New Orleans Film Fest 2025 Documentaries
An important part of this year's eclectic New Orleans Film Festival lineup is the feature documentaries. Many have a local connection to them.
The opening night feature is such a
documentary: Michalopoulos - the Art of Celebration. Directed by Sean
O'Malley, the film highlights the life and work of artist James Michalopoulos,
who moved to New Orleans four decades ago and began chronicling the city
through his paintings.

In A Good Place Now: The Life and
Music of Bobby Charles, directed by local filmmaker David DuBos, focuses on
Charles, who began his career as a songwriter penning songs for Fats Domino. He
then became a teen pop star and a country-folk singer. The film features
interviews with legendary performers such as Dr. John and Allen Toussaint.

Sports fans might be interested in Luv
Ya Bum! The documentary focuses on Bum Phillips, who came agonizingly close
to getting the Saints to their first playoff appearance in 1982 and 1983. However,
this film focuses primarily on Phillips' career as a coach of the Houston
Oilers and how the team's run of success in the late 1970s served as a rallying
point for the Houston community.
