LPO's 2026-2027 Season

The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra has released its 2026-2027 season performance dates and locations, with features at the Orpheum Theater, the Northshore's Fuhrmann Auditorium, and the New Marigny Theatre.

This season's theme considers what the "heartbeat" of the Americas is. Through musical storytelling, the ensemble will produce the culture of South America and the American South via their unique arrangements.

The orchestra is determined to produce a high quality performance experience with world premier arrangements, such as Kevin Puts' Flute Concerto and a piece made by James Lee III.

Featured Performances at Orpheum Theater

A highly notable arrangement the LPO will be performing is Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2. This will feature a medalist of the New Orleans International Piano Competition.

Tank & The Bangas is making a return to the LPO's stage, bringing their Grammy Award-winning expertise to the performance. Their album, The Heart, The Mind, The Soul, won Best Spoken Word Poetry Album.

Concierto en Tango, a work by Miguel del Aguila, is a performance feature for Hispanic Heritage Month. Cellist Roman Mekinulov will bring this arrangement to life, celebrating Hispanic history.

Shostakovich Symphony No. 5 is a dramatic piece, situated in a historically political context. The orchestra's music director laureate, Carlos Miguel Prieto, and acclaimed violinist Abree Oliverson work in tandem to produce a powerful rendition of this work.

Peer Gynt and Mahler's Symphony No. 5 are paired for a performance revealing various musical sentiments. From the sounds of a funeral march and Norwegian folklore to a lively and vibrant finale, this piece takes the audience on a journey through musical storytelling.

Prominent conductor Daniela Candillari leads the orchestra in a program including complicated work by Tchaikovsky. Among this will also be works by Saint-Saens, Khachaturian, and Prokofiev.

Melisse Brunet will lead her first performance with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra with Pictures at an Exhibition by Mussorgsky and Ravel. This will take the audience through the colorful and dynamic sounds of perusing an art exhibition.

The recipient of multiple Grammy Awards, conductor JoAnn Falletta, will make a momentous appearance with the philharmonic. She will lead the ensemble in Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade.

The theme of the 2026-2027 season, highlighting the core of the Americas, results in the inclusion of Aaron Copland's Appalachian Spring. This is coupled with another thematically relevant work: Astor Piazzolla's Four Seasons in Buenos Aires.
