LIMELIGHT THURSDAYS
Are you a fan of Wednesdays at The Square in New Orleans' Central Business District? A new music event is on the Fall horizon at the campus of the University of New Orleans.
Starting on October 27th and running every Thursday for four weeks until November 17th at 5:30 p.m. the University of New Orleans' School of Arts will be hosting their Limelight Thursdays. The Limelight Thursdays will feature free live outdoor entertainment by local performers that also encompass University of New Orleans alumni, faculty, and current students. The entertainment will further include Grammy award nominees and winners like artists such as Cha Wa, George Porter Jr., John Papa Gros, and Muevelo, featuring Brent Rose a University of New Orleans music faculty member and Alum, Grammy Award winning saxophonist.
Limelight Thursdays will be held at the newly revamped outdoor amphitheater on the University of New Orleans campus. There will also be food trucks, and adult beverages for sale courtesy of Urban South The creation of this musical event is to help bring a larger awareness to the campus' School of Arts programming with well-known artists and local performers. Limelight Thursdays will be free through the courtesy of The School of Arts, and the artists that it has fostered connections with throughout the years. "Due to the strong connections and the incredible talent that The School of the Arts has fostered, we are able to easily contract with high-profile popular artists that have a large reach and are outside of our current music programing for Jazz at the Sandbar and Musical Excursions to bring the amphitheater alive and show off our program." says organizer Caroline Mendez, operations coordinator for The School of the Arts. As mentioned, this four week program will be free and open to the public.
Other campus events can range from free up to $15. Seniors 55 and older can get tickets to other campus events for $10, and students from any campus are free with their college ID.
