Festivals Acadiens et Créoles 2026
Festivals Acadiens et Créoles will return to Lafayette for its 52nd year for three days of music, food, regional arts and crafts, and folk life exploration in the heart of Southwest Louisiana.
From October 9 through 11, festival-goers get to experience the vibrant authentic cultural activity of Lafayette where so many historic people and ethnic groups have melded the city into what it is today. Located in Girard Park, locals and visitors will meet at the fest to dance, eat, love, and explore one of America's richest and most unique cultures.
The festival joined the Smithosonian Institution's "Festival of Festivals" as one of 34 to join the nationwide initiative to highlight festival spaces for cultural exchange, civic engagement, and dialogue. This year's festival theme is "Revolution and Evolution: Celebrating 250 Years of Cultural Fusion on the Bayou."
Festivals Acadiens et Créoles' New Additions
The festival will look different this year due to its partnership with the Smithsonian. There will be an expanded day-long symposium exploring Creole and Cajun culture, workshops and folklife demonstrations, and a festival photography and archival ephemera exhibition at Hilliard Art Museum. All events are held in verdant, with oak-shaded Girard Park in the center of the weekend.
The festival will revolve around four major components of culture including music, food, art, and the French language. Lafayette and its surrounding region is known for its rich Creole and Cajun foods and zydeco and Cajun music. The arts and crafts scene, including both traditional and contemporary practices, has also made a lasting impact in the Acadiana area.
There will be several stages for festival goers to listen to music, with performances in Louisiana French and Creole languages that are still alive in South Louisiana. There will be rows of food stalls with bowls of jambalaya, rich boudin balls, seafood, and other Creole and Cajun dishes. There will be lines of vendors selling hand-crafted art and souvenirs. Iron-forging, yarn-spinning, and pottery are a few live folk life demonstrations that will be on display.
