The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation proudly announces the return of Class Got Brass on Saturday, March 29, 2025, presented by the Gia Maione Prima Foundation.

This dynamic competition, which will take place during the Congo Square Rhythms Festival, continues its mission of nurturing young musical talent while preserving New Orleans' cherished brass band traditions.

Class Got Brass Event Details

  • Date: Saturday, March 29, 2025
  • Eligibility: Middle and high schools throughout Louisiana
  • Categories: Advanced and Beginner divisions
  • Prizes: Over $50,000 in music education grants

Competition Format & Requirements

The competition guidelines maintain the essence of New Orleans brass band tradition, limiting each ensemble to one bass drum, one snare drum, one tuba, and traditional brass band instruments. Winning schools receive grant checks redeemable for instruments, repairs, sheet music, and other essential music program supplies.

To support participating schools, the Preservation Hall Foundation offers comprehensive resources including downloadable sheet music arrangements, classic recordings, and instructional materials covering six traditional brass band pieces. This initiative ensures students and directors have the tools needed to authentically engage with New Orleans' musical heritage.
