Annie Moran's "The Welcoming Committee" Mural Dedication
Arts New Orleans will dedicate artist Annie Moran's outdoor mural on November 22 from 1 to 2 p.m., at the Girod Street overpass, as an extension of the Unframed mural series presented by the Helis Foundation.
Taking place at 1339 Girod St., event attendance is free for all individuals and open to the public.
Moran's piece, The Welcoming Committee, encapsulates the vastness of New Orleans culture. It references the corresponding musical, culinary, and customary influences by depicting subjects varying in age, race, and occupation.
The Mural
The Mardi Gras Indian quickly catches the viewer's eye, serving as the largest subject in the mural. The grand costume and poised stance represents the respected Mardi Gras Indian tradition and its elaborate hand-crafted garb.
A first line grand marshal, of the New Orleans second line parade custom, is centered below the Mardi Gras Indian. The marshal's blue ensemble and tambourine draws attention to the city's value in individuality and expression
Each of Moran's characters exhibits motion in pursuit of art, inspired by dance and music. These key components of the New Orleans lifestyle can be celebrated amongst the community at the mural's official unveiling.
Outside of her mural ventures, Moran also designs unique wallpaper, prints and clothing. Many of her works highlight culture and nature, often incorporating people and birds into her designs.

Unframed & Supporting Organizations
Since 2019, Unframed has brought imagination and artistry to building exteriors in the New Orleans Art District. Moran's work marks the project's 11th installment and the first of 2025.
Arts New Orleans has supported New Orleans art for 50 years as a nonprofit cultivating community and embracing innovation. With this goal in mind, the organization has organized the implementation of 410 public artworks. This agenda is supported by the community, as well, with 49 contributing partners who work in collaboration with Arts New Orleans.
The Helis Foundation works with the nonprofit to fund the Unframed series. The foundation funds numerous artistic projects and initiatives in addition to Arts New Orleans'. This includes outdoor sculptures, live music, and ticket vouchers for films.
Arts New Orleans has found many ways to connect the city's community with art, whether they are hosting an arts festival, expanding youth education, or strengthening environmental awareness.
