Poetry & Partying
Put on
your finest tartan and join The NOLA Project for a celebratory night of
Scottish tradition! With poetry, play readings, and partying, Burns Night
commemorates Scotland's national poet, Robert "Rabbie" Burns on his birthday.
Featuring
performances by The NOLA Projects' ensemble, this event includes food and drink,
traditional toasts, 18th century Scottish literature, and a reading
of Gillian Duffy's one-act play, The Ghosting of Rabbie Burns.
In keeping
with their commitment to imaginative and innovative theater, The NOLA Project
promises a unique take on this classic tradition. "While Burns Night is, at
this point, a long-standing tradition in Scotland and with Scottish Americans
here in the States, Robert Burns himself was a wholly non-traditional
character, and he would have appreciated our wholly non-traditional take on the
eponymous holiday," said Alex Wallace, an ensemble member. "Robert Burns was a
poet, a patriot, and a lover, but just like us at The NOLA Project, he was a
wicked scamp—and so we shall make him proud."
Burns
Night will be held at Jacob Schoen & Son on 3827 Canal St. on Saturday,
January 25 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Admission is free with suggested donation of
$20, and RSVPs are requested. The proceeds of Burns Night will go toward The
NOLA Project's 20th season. To learn more and reserve a spot, visit NOLAProject.com.
