One Month Until Essence Festival

Last week, the Essence Festival of Culture (Essence Fest) hosted their annual media luncheon at the world famous Dooky Chase's Restaurant after a two year Covid hiatus and it is confirmed; the countdown for one of the city's most anticipated festivals has officially begun!

What's happening at this year's Essence Fest?

The Essence Fest is back in New Orleans hosting a variety of events, with a little something for everyone. The almost 30 year-old festival started as, "A party with a purpose," but has now expanded itself into something much bigger. "It's the Essence Festival of Culture, it's not just the Essence Festival of music," states Essence Fest CEO, Carline A. Wanga. Wanga says, "the beauty of that is that we are not just about having a good time when the world is against us… but more so about turning blackness into greatness." This is embodied by this year's theme of "It's the Black Joy for Me."

The 2022 festival is jam packed with events from daytime to nighttime, including popular events such as the generational wealth seminars, Wellness House, Beauty Carnival, and new events like the Tech Summit and more. During the nighttime, they'll have the traditional concert series, which will include performances by Kevin Hart, Nicki Minaj, Janet Jackson, New Edition, Jazmine Sullivan, Summer Walker, D'Nice, the Isley Brothers and a plethora of others. Like 2019, Essence Fest is also bringing back the After Dark series with a diverse representation of talent to keep the party going.

Essence Festival of Culture 2022

Expected to bring in one of the biggest crowds of attendees this year, the festival crew has taken a number of efforts to make sure that this already popular festival is well promoted across the country and the world. One new thing that the festival is doing this year is opening all live events to the virtual world through the Essence Festival App. (Attendees can register at essence.com). Another major promotional tool is the mini Essence Fest tour pop-ups in locations like Los Angeles and Chicago. There, the festival hosts mini experiences to get more people invested in coming to New Orleans to enjoy the full experience with the city that hosts the amazing festival each year. While Essence Festival is getting bigger and better each year, CEO Carline A. Wanga wants the city of New Orleans to rest assured that the festival will always be hosted in the Big Easy because we are part of what makes this festival fabulous.
