Swing in to Satchmo SummerFest

Join the New Orleans Tourism and Cultural Fund on August 3 and 4 to celebrate the legacy of Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong during their two-day, four-stage Satchmo SummerFest. This free and open-to-the-public event boasts an impressive musical lineup featuring locally acclaimed musicians such as Preservation Brass, the George Brown Band, Al "Lil Fats" Jackson, the Brass-A-Holics, and many more.

Located at the New Orleans Jazz Museum, Satchmo SummerFest annually coincides with Louis Armstrong's birthday, with the first festival taking place on what would've been his 100th birthday.

Throughout Louis Armstrong's career, he entertained millions of fans and music lovers, ranging from heads of state and royalty to neighborhood kids sitting on his stoop in Corona, New York. Widely recognized as one of the founding fathers of jazz, Armstrong gained his nickname when Melody Maker Magazine editor Percy Brooks greeted Armstrong in London with the phrase "Hello Satchmo!" "Satchmo," short for satchel mouth, stuck from then on, and Armstrong's societal footprint around the globe remains as he is still considered a monolith in American jazz history today.

Feed Your Mind, Your Soul and Your Appetite

Featuring speakers such as Don Vappie, Sam Irwin, and Ricky Riccardi, these 45-minute interviews and speeches are designed to educate festival-goers on the history and cultural influence of Louis Armstrong.
