Like filling your lungs with a big breath of fresh air, Saint John has been revitalized at its new location at 715 St. Charles Ave.
The streetcar rambles by, locals and visitors slowly stroll past, and, soon enough, Mardi Gras revelers will take over the street. It seems like Chef Eric Cook's Saint John should have been here all along. The sunny windows at the front allow great views of the avenue from the large bar area. The main dining room behind it is more like a theater. Chef Eric needs his "picture window" kitchen so that everyone can be a part of the "ballet and Broadway" of the kitchen. This iteration of Saint John also includes a Chef's Table and two intimate dining rooms upstairs that is perfect for those special occasions.
Media, family, and friends got a sneak peek of the gorgeous new restaurant that dazzled and delighted with cocktails, bites, and artwork that all wrapped up in the essence of the city so succinctly. The Late Dr. John was visible in many places (like in the Right Place, Wrong Time cocktail), and many other New Orleans and Louisiana characters graced the walls, watching you while you bask in their glory.
Chef Eric Cook was happy to explain the process of renovating the space, crafting the menu, and creating the ambiance to his guests as passed plates of Shrimp Yassa, Tuna and Cucumber, Muffuletta Bruschetta, and the most amazing Salted Chocolate Tarts emptied within seconds. I remember so well the opening soiree of the former Saint John in 2021, and this event, this place, this time feels right.
