Jazzy Vibes, Modern Hits
Postmodern Jukebox returned to New Orleans on Friday, August 2 to once again reintroduce its nattily-dressed fan base to songs they know well—or avoid altogether—with an early-20th century musical sensibilities twist.
Scott Bradlee's group eased onto the stage at The Fillmore for their 10 year anniversary show and eased right into a silky smooth set that include Michael Jackson's "Thriller," Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," and a rap/R&B mashup of "Radioactive."
An unexpected uptempo rhythm accompanied by lively tap dancing gave a new take on the Harry Potter theme, with a cape-and-wand performer morphing into a traditional feather burlesque—a fully clothed male. Fan favorite "Bad Romance" was a softer, yet more menacing, version of Lady Gaga's powerhouse song.
Their drummer defied expectations when taking the mic with a Smokey Robinson-esque voice, quieting the admiring crowd.
Three female vocalists took solo turns then returned in an Andrew Sisters-level performance of Meghan Trainor's "All About That Bass." A Motown tribute to Nickelback followed.
Encores were demanded by the dancing audience, and Postmodern Jukebox did not disappoint, with a powerful rendition of "Creep" to close out their 1050th show.
