Spooky Cocktails with New Orleans Lore—and a New Secret Bar
The Mortuary Haunted Mansion warns New Orleans the city is half way to Halloween by opening its new Tales of the Macabre interactive performance—paired with signature themed cocktails.
Let The Right One In
The popular Mid-City attraction welcomes guests in the main doors at the Canal Street entrance. Greeted with a cocktail, a limited number of guests per visit are whisked upstairs to begin to socialize and await what's next. After a brief history of the building—which used to actually be a mortuary—narrow hallways guide them to sets of seats looking out a rose window where an a mischievous vampire greets them, and the first of four tales begin.
Subsequent stories are related about local Crescent City legends and lore. As each tale ends, guests continue through halls and walls until they are welcomed with another cocktail (or mocktail) and the next tale. The themed drinks include The Vampire's Kiss, Axeman's Delight, and The Voodoo Wolf—names which prepare guests in as to the tale of terror.
Magic Potions
If that wasn't enough, after the intrepid few who care to navigate the labyrinth of foreboding hallways exit, they find themselves in The Mortuary's new Eerie Adventurer's Club. Modeled after the 1930s English Explorer's Club & Cabaret, this Gothic-style bar & lounge welcomes guests to exhale, relax, and perhaps have a drink to settle the nerves in the confines of the club's warm and inviting blood-red walls.
The stage in the speakeasy-esque cabaret lounge area can feature live performances or trivia, depending on the night...and the mood. The walking dead may materialize beside you as characters from The Mortuary productions roam the lounge upon occasion.
The Mortuary's general manger Michelle Bergsted is proud of the new interactive show as well as opening the bar. She explains it is the result of the employees commitment and passion of the haunted side of life. The team's labor of love signals the end of renovations finally being complete after recent hurricane and storm damage.
"We're like a family here," Bergsted says. "The Addams Family, but a family nonetheless."
Weekend of the Living Dead
The Eerie Adventurer's Club is open Thursdays through Saturdays all summer from 6 p.m. until the last body drops. Patrons are welcome to come in to the night club without a cover charge or needing to tour any of The Mortuary's attractions.
