SYNC UP Cinema, which is presented by the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation in partnership with NOVAC, spotlights the works of independent local filmmakers and helps connect them with audiences, as well as networking opportunities and industry insights. The works of said filmmakers are screened in a bimonthly basis and are incorporated into differently themed "episodes" that they must reflect. Previous episodes have included "Gen Z", "Southern Women", "Black Lives Matter", and "Reel Justice".

There is currently an open call for SYNC UP Cinema's upcoming episode, which is titled "In the Mood for Love". This theme asks interested filmmakers to create and submit short films that explore the topic of love. Some questions the open call asks of filmmakers include what love means to them, as well as what does love look like, feel like, and sound like.

The open call is meant to highlight Louisiana films and filmmakers, so anyone living in the state who is interested in submitting a short film about love must do so by January 25, 2023. Films that are selected will be screened at SYNC UP Cinema's next event at the Jazz & Heritage Foundation on February 8. Filmmakers who are selected will also participate in follow-up Q&As with audience members and will be provided with a stipend, pending their availability to attend the event in person.

Where to Submit a Short Film

Any Louisiana filmmaker who is interested in submitting to SYNC UP Cinema's open call for "In the Mood for Love" can do so through NOVAC's website.
