300 Shows Showcasing Local Talent

Celebrate New Orleans' local music and performing arts scene throughout the end of September and the beginning of October with NOLAxNOLA presenting over 300 shows spanning across more than 50 venues. From burlesque shows to comedy nights, and everything in between, NOLAxNOLA in partnership with New Orleans & Company is excited to showcase and support local performers, musicians, venues, and clubs over 11 days.

Beginning on September 26 through October 6, there will be a multitude of performances around the city. A list of some of the biggest highlights are below.

Comedy Roast of Kermit Ruffins

On Thursday, September 26, Tipitina's will host a live comedy "roast" of Kermit Ruffins. Beloved musician and performer Kermit Ruffins is known for his impressive musical capabilities as a jazz trumpeter, singer, and composer. With an extensive resume—including co-founder of the Rebirth Brass Band, creator of nearly 15 albums, and singer in Disney's 2016 The Jungle Book—Ruffins consistently wows the New Orleans' community. Therefore, who better to roast?

Join Ruffins and an array of other industry legends for an evening of laughter, embarrassing stories, and more as they raise money for The Roots of Music. Doors open at 7 p.m., with the show starting at 8 p.m., and tickets range from $20 to $60. Prepare for a night of hilarious jokes!


NOLAxNO Cover Live Music Event

Spanning across multiple venues on the iconic Frenchman Street, doors will be open to the public to enjoy live music. On Sunday, September 29, venues including d.b.a., the Spotted Cat, Blue Nile, Cafe Negril, Snug Harbor Jazz Bistro, Royal Frenchmen Hotel, and more invite you to non-stop live music by some of the city's best musicians and performers. Enjoy multiple genres—from funk to jazz—with clubs opening at 10:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. Finally, the evening will kickoff with a live-band and Saints watch party at Café Negril.


NOLAxNOLA Meet and Greets

Learn from and experience the knowledge of local industry geniuses and artisans from Monday, September 30 through Wednesday, October 3 with NOLAxNOLA's Meet and Greet events. Each evening will include a happy hour and casual conversations where people are invited to build connections and learn more from seasoned professionals.

Taking place at multiple venues throughout the city, Meet and Greets will run from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. with the lineup including: The Serious Business of New Orleans Comedy at the Comedy House on Monday, September 30; Music Tech Demo Day at the Barnett on Tuesday, October 1; and finally Celebration of Women in the Music Industry at Okay Bar on Wednesday, October 2. Whether you are a budding young artist or a local fan, these Meet and Greets are a fun and casual way to meet those who have a hand in the industry. No tickets necessary!


Music Month Kick-Off Party

Chickie Wah Wah is launching into the music month of October with a kick off party on Tuesday, October 1 at 7 p.m. Performers will include Jon Cleary, the Absolute Monster Gentlemen, and the Absolute Monster Horns. Tickets start at $36.50 a person!


Tip-It Foundation: An All Star Tribute to Stevie Wonder Event

With proceeds benefiting Youth Empowerment Project, MiNo Foundation, and Roots of Music, Tipitina's is excited to host an all-star musical celebration with performances by artists Irma Thomas, Cyril Neville, Cornell Williams, and many more! The evening will be jam-packed with fantastic music, impressive performances, and good company.

Supporting these local foundations are key to uplifting the New Orleans community and acts as an underpin to the city's local youth by providing opportunities and education to unlock hidden potentials. Mark your calendars for Thursday, October 3 and visit Tipitina's, with doors opening at 7 p.m., to enjoy a lineup of fantastic musicians. Tickets start at $30.


NOLAxNOLA Talks Powered by Relix

On Thursday, October 3 and Friday, October 4, a talented and seasoned lineup of local music industry professionals will present the inaugural NOLAxNOLA Talks. With seven-panels spanning two-days, guests are invited to engage in authentic and informative conversations regarding the past, present, and future of the New Orleans' music industry. For those who are just getting into the city's local music scene, or are simply curious to have your questions answered, these talks are a fantastic resource. Hosted by the Double Dealer cocktail bar, discussions will begin at 1 p.m.


Tribute to Allen Toussaint

Having an incredibly influential hand in New Orleans' rhythm and blues scene, Allen Toussaint was a musician, songwriter, and record producer, well-known for his albums Southern Nights, American Tunes, and The Bright Mississippi. In honor and celebration of his iconic musical career, Toulouse Theatre is excited to host Reginald Toussaint, Irma Thomas, Cyril Neville, and more on Saturday, October 5. Doors will open at 8 p.m., with showtime starting at 9 p.m.


NOLAxNOLA GrammyU Event

Celebrating and showcasing young and upcoming artists from Loyola, Tulane, Dillard, Xavier, and University of New Orleans, the Broadside will host a free concert on Sunday, October 6. Open to all from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m., enjoy the hardworking and creative student's music, alongside a multitude of nonprofit organizations in attendance to learn more about local charities and get help in registering to vote! A fantastic way to support young artists and learn more about local nonprofits, the Broadside is excited to host everyone.
