The
New Orleans Multicultural Tourism Network has announced that
finalists from the 2019 New Orleans Music Showcase will be reuniting to
perform their own cover versions of classic songs from the "New Orleans
Songbook."
It'll be held on December 9 at the House of Blues at
225 Decatur St. and will feature songs that have been performed by some of
NOLA's greatest talents: Irma Thomas, Dr. John, Ernie-K-Doe, Mahalia Jackson,
and more. The performance will start at 7 p.m. and a Patron Party will take
place before at 6 p.m.
"We are excited to have this unique opportunity to
embrace and revel in our past as well as acknowledge the extraordinary
potential of New Orleans's musical future," Essence Banks, executive director
of NOMTN, said. "As the city returns to normal, the "New Orleans Songbook" is a
perfect way to honor the City through song during the holidays," Banks
added.
The purpose of NOMTN's signature New Orleans Music Showcase is to grant exposure to local
musicians and bring recognition to a more distinctive music industry dialogue
in the city. The NOMS started as a competition in 2019 for local musicians. There
was so much buzz from the first music showcase that it attracted over 60
submissions and the winners had the chance to perform live at the 2019 Essence
Festival.
"It was an honor to participate in the Music Showcase
in 2019 and a special privilege to present classic New Orleans sounds this
year," 2019 NOMS finalist Casme´ Barnes said. "The music makes New Orleanians
happy. And, in terms of exposure to music, entertainment and hospitality
decision makers, the business and promotional opportunities are game changers."
